{"id":6283,"date":"2017-08-25T22:02:19","date_gmt":"2017-08-25T16:32:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/?p=6283"},"modified":"2017-08-25T22:02:19","modified_gmt":"2017-08-25T16:32:19","slug":"tip-composite-name-field-in-dynamics-365","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/tip-composite-name-field-in-dynamics-365\/","title":{"rendered":"Tip \u2013 Composite Name field in Dynamics 365"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recently we had a requirement to show the middle name in the Composite Name field in Dynamics 365.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Currently, the composite name field on the fly out only shows the First Name and the Last Name as shown in the screenshot below;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6284\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/1.png\" alt=\"Tip \u2013 Composite Name field in Dynamics 365_1\" width=\"734\" height=\"471\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the requirement was to show the middle Name too. There are two ways to achieve this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> The first option to achieve this is to remove the composite Name field and add all the fields; First Name, Middle Name and Last Name on the form.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6285\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/2.png\" alt=\"Tip \u2013 Composite Name field in Dynamics 365_2\" width=\"677\" height=\"398\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>2.<\/strong>\u00a0There is another option to achieve this, and it can be found in System Settings. Navigate to <strong><em>Settings -&gt; System Administration.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">In <strong><em>System Administration, <\/em><\/strong>under the <strong><em>General tab<\/em><\/strong>, there is <strong><em>\u2018Set the full-name format\u2019<\/em><\/strong> where you can select the <strong><em>Name format<\/em><\/strong> to be <strong><em>\u2018First Name Middle Name Last Name\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6286\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/3.png\" alt=\"Tip \u2013 Composite Name field in Dynamics 365_3\" width=\"733\" height=\"269\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">A pop-up alert that these changes will not be seen on the existing records as shown in the screenshot below;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6287\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/4.png\" alt=\"Tip \u2013 Composite Name field in Dynamics 365_4\" width=\"734\" height=\"288\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: justify;\">After the settings are applied, we can see the changes in the composite field on the Lead form as shown in the screenshot below;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6288\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/5.png\" alt=\"Tip \u2013 Composite Name field in Dynamics 365_5\" width=\"738\" height=\"479\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\">Also, this setting is used for formatting the Name field.
