In this blog, we will go through the process of designing a Power BI report to implement the use of this Slicer (new) Visual. Let us consider a business scenario where a Salesperson wants to filter out the list of the Customers of the organization. This implies that the report will exclusively showcase Customers owned by the Salesperson we have selected.<\/p>\n
In the preceding blog post<\/a>, we accomplished this using the “Slicer<\/strong>” and now, in the current post, we will delve into the upgraded iteration of the established “Slicer (new)<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n Let us have a look at the steps to accomplish this requirement using Power BI:<\/strong><\/p>\n Step 1:<\/strong>\u00a0Navigate to Power BI Desktop to Microsoft Dataverse. Look for the \u2018Get Data\u2019 option. Click and Expand \u2018Get Data\u2019 and select \u2018Dataverse\u2019.<\/p>\n Please refer to the screenshot given below:<\/p>\n You shall be prompted to log in with the user credentials to establish the connection to Dataverse.<\/p>\n Step 2:\u00a0<\/strong>After establishing the connection, select the necessary data from Dataverse. When you click the \u2018Dataverse\u2019, an environment selector window pops up. Select an environment from the options offered.<\/p>\n Please refer to the screenshot given below:<\/p>\n Step 3:\u00a0<\/strong>Now, select the tables as indicated in the screenshot (You can select any table as per your requirements).<\/p>\n On selecting the tables from the appropriate environment, data can directly be loaded or transformed.<\/p>\n All the Table columns are visible in the sitemap. Select\u00a0Slicer (New)<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0Visualization,\u00a0<\/strong>and then select the columns\u00a0Full Name <\/strong>from<\/strong> the System users <\/strong>table.<\/strong><\/p>\n When you add the newest Slicer, it will automatically convert into the Button Format on the Power BI Report.<\/p>\n In the older version of the slicer, certain functionalities were limited. For instance, there was a need to manually create buttons in vertical and horizontal within the formatting options unlike in the newest version of the slicer. We have more functionalities as compared to the oldest slicer which we will see one by one below.<\/p>\n Images functionality allows us to take image URLs to display images on the Slicer options.<\/p>\n We will add the sample image URLs in the \u201cTitle<\/strong>\u201d Field of User Entity.<\/p>\n After this, we have to click on Images-><\/strong>then click on Add data<\/strong>->then search Title Field.<\/p>\n In this property, we encounter a broader range of features such as Border, Fill, Shadow, Glow, and Accent Bar. Let us explore all, individually.<\/p>\n When we enable the “Shadow<\/strong>” option for the Slicer, it will be applied to the Slicer’s data. To achieve this, we need to define the position and offset parameters within the Shadow properties.<\/p>\n When we enable the “Glow” option for the Slicer, it will be applied to the Slicer’s data. To achieve this, we need to define the Color, position, and offset parameters within the Glow properties.<\/p>\n When we enable the “Accent Bar” option for the Slicer, it will be applied to the Slicer’s data. To achieve this, we need to define the Color, position, Transparency, and Width parameters within the Glow properties.<\/p>\n After that, we can filter the Customer by Salesperson name using the new \u201cButton Slicer<\/strong>\u201d feature as shown in the below screenshot.<\/p>\n By following these steps, you can explore the New Features \u201cButton Slicer<\/strong>\u201d report that displays Customers filtered based on selected Salespeople.
