Introduction:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Recently we came across a request from a customer that they wanted to show\/hide a few activity field labels and data that are displayed in the timeline by default.<\/p>\n

We then started exploring timeline configuration capabilities in 2021 release wave 2 by following this\u00a0doc<\/a>. Here we came across a new enhanced feature for configuring the activities in the timeline. It provides the leverage to show\/hide the activity field label and activity data that is displayed over the timeline as per the business needs.<\/p>\n

As we all know while displaying activity information in the timeline there are two options available \u2013 \u201cDefault form\u201d or \u201cCard form\u201d. Both forms can be configured easily with the configuration form setting which is explained in detail later in this blog.<\/p>\n

On the Account entity timeline, by default the Email activity information is displayed as follows:<\/p>\n

Let us consider one business scenario where the customer has a request to modify the timeline configuration as given below:<\/p>\n

1<\/strong>. Change the header label from \u201cEmail From\u201d to \u201cFrom\u201d (e.g. \u201cEmail From\u201d is the default label shown, refer to the screenshot above).<\/p>\n

2<\/strong>. Hide the \u201cSubject\u201d label and show data present in the \u201cSubject\u201d field as it is (e.g. \u201cInitial Demo\u201d is the data present, refer to the screenshot above).<\/p>\n

\"Kanban<\/a><\/p>\n

3<\/strong>. Hide the \u201cDescription\u201d label and hide the data present in the \u201cDescription\u201d field as well, showing the \u201cDescription\u201d data only if the user expands the activity record in the timeline. (e.g. \u201cDescription\u201d label and value are by default shown (without expanding) but the customer needs to hide them and show them after expanding, refer to the screenshot above).<\/p>\n

4<\/strong>. Hide the \u201cStatus\u201d (e.g. \u201cActive\u201d status shown, refer to the screenshot above).<\/p>\n

5<\/strong>. Hide the \u201cModified On\u201d footer label and show it only after the mouse hovers. Also show data present in the \u201cModified On\u201d field as it is (e.g. \u201cModified On\u201d date value present in the footer along with the \u201cModified On\u201d label, refer to the screenshot above).<\/p>\n

You can follow the below steps for accommodating the above changes while configuring the timeline:<\/p>\n

1<\/strong>. Go to\u00a0https:\/\/make.powerapps.com\/<\/a>\u2013>Select an Account entity\u2013> Under Forms\u2013>Select the \u201cAccount\u201d Main form.<\/p>\n

2<\/strong>. When you select the timeline then the \u201cProperties\u201d tab opens up to the right side, where you can click on the appropriate activity that you want to configure. I clicked on Email activity and as you can see by default there is \u201cDefault Form\u201d selected in the \u201cConfigure form\u201d window as shown below:<\/p>\n

3<\/strong>. When you click on it, the Default form opens up with default setting as shown below:<\/p>\n

4<\/strong>. Now, let us configure the above Default form to incorporate the customer request as stated above.<\/p>\n

5<\/strong>. On \u201cDefault form\u201d, below fields \u201cLabel option\u201d and \u201cDisplay option\u201d are configured to match the above customer need:<\/p>\n

HEADER<\/strong>: <\/u>Uncheck the \u201cUse default label<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0checkbox to show \u201cFrom<\/strong>\u201d as label in the header.<\/p>\n

Note: If the \u201cUse default label<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0checkbox is checked \u201cEmail From\u201d label is displayed in the header and vice versa.<\/em><\/p>\n

BODY1<\/strong>:<\/u> To hide \u201cSubject\u201d label, select \u201cLabel option\u201d dropdown option as Hide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

BODY2<\/strong>: To hide \u201cDescription\u201d label, select \u201cLabel option\u201d dropdown option as Hide. And to hide \u201cDescription\u201d field value and show it after expanding, select the \u201cDisplay option\u201d dropdown as Show on expand<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

STATUS TAG:<\/strong> To hide \u201cStatus\u201d, select \u201cDisplay option\u201d dropdown option as<\/p>\n

FOOTER<\/strong>: <\/u>To hide \u201cModified On\u201d label and show after mouse hover, select the \u201cLabel option\u201d dropdown as Show on hover<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once done with the above configuration, click on the \u201cDone\u201d button. Once you save and publish it, you will observe the changes in the timeline as below:<\/p>\n

You can refer the above screenshot where post configuration you can observe below changes in the timeline:<\/p>\n

1<\/strong>. Header label changed to \u201cFrom\u201d.<\/p>\n

2<\/strong>. \u201cSubject\u201d label is hidden from the Body1 and only \u201cSubject\u201d field data is shown.<\/p>\n

3<\/strong>. After expanding you will observe \u201cDescription\u201d label is hidden and only \u201cDescription\u201d field data is shown in the Body2 as shown below:<\/p>\n

4<\/strong>. Notice that Status is hidden and moreover by hovering mouse on the Footer you will observe \u201cModified On\u201d label shown as shown below:<\/p>\n

Email Card form configuration:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Similar to the \u201cDefault form\u201d configuration explained above, there is facility to change the Default form to Email card form at any time. For this, there is a form switcher available as shown below:<\/p>\n

Once you select the Email Card Form from the above form switcher, the fields are available for configuration are as per the Email card form. By clicking on \u201cOpen Email Card form\u201d you will be navigated to the Email card form which you can customize as per your need.<\/p>\n

Once you save and publish it, you will observe the changes in the timeline as per the card form as shown below:<\/p>\n
