To enable the duplicate detection you have to create a duplicate rule.<\/p>\n<p>To create duplicate rule GoTo -&gt;Settings-&gt;Data Management-&gt;Duplicate Detection Rule-&gt;New. Then you will get below window.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_pMlyDuF-ngc\/SbUj_N936tI\/AAAAAAAAACk\/23NERtz7dWM\/s400\/sc1.bmp\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In above screen shot The fields which are covered with red rectangle are as follows :<\/p>\n<p>1. Name : Name of the rule.<br \/>\n2. Status Reason : Status reason is by default unpublished. When you published this rule then status reason get Published automatically.<br \/>\n3. Base Record Type : In this we choose an entity by which we can find duplicate records.<br \/>\n4. Matching Record Type : In this we choose an entity on which we check the duplicate records.<br \/>\n5. Now we define the attributes on which we want duplicate detection.<\/p>\n<p>Here I select contact in both \u201cBase Record Type\u201d and \u201cMatching Record Type\u201d because I want to compare \u201cFirst Name\u201d and \u201cLast Name\u201d of contact only.<br \/>\nIf you want to check Is there any existing Contact With \u201cFirst Name\u201d and \u201cLast Name\u201d that you fill in the lead. Then do the following<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_pMlyDuF-ngc\/SbUj_ZKJ2HI\/AAAAAAAAACs\/6rt6Y__sMnI\/s400\/sc2.bmp\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select Lead as \u201cBase Record Type\u201d and Contact as \u201cMatching Record Type\u201d and select the attribute of both entities on which you want to duplicate detection.<br \/>\nIn this case whenever you want to save a lead then duplicate detection will run if a contact exists with the lead\u2019s \u201cFirst Name and \u201cLast Name\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>When you create a record then duplicate rule will search for any existing record With \u201cFirst Name and \u201cLast Name\u201d.
