Common Data Service (CDS) enables us to easily build and extend applications with their business data. Using CDS we can directly get option set labels and lookup values without applying any query.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We will see how we can get data from CRM using Common Data Service for Apps (CDS) in Power BI.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now, open your power BI desktop and select \u201c<strong>Common Data Service for Apps (Beta)<\/strong>\u201d under \u201c<strong>Get Data<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13168\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Connect-to-the-Power-BI-Using-Common-Data-Service.png\" alt=\"Connect to the Power BI Using Common Data Service\" width=\"614\" height=\"665\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now specify your Dynamics 365 URL as Server URL in CDS Contents. If you specify \u201c<strong>Add display column<\/strong>\u201d as false then you will not be able to get status labels and option set labels.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Note: You will not get option set labels for <strong>Multi Select Option Set<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13169\" style=\"border: 1px solid #0a0a0a; padding: 1px; margin: 1px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Connect-to-the-Power-BI-Using-Common-Data-Service1.png\" alt=\"Connect to the Power BI Using Common Data Service\" width=\"695\" height=\"317\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you are not already signed in then you need to sign in using your Power BI Credentials.<\/p>\n<p>After successful signed in, the Navigator window will open showing the list of entities in \u201c<strong>Common Data Model<\/strong>\u201d, <strong>\u201cCustom Entities<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>System<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Common Data Model <\/strong>contains commonly used OOB entities such as accounts, contacts, invoices etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Custom Entities <\/strong>contains custom entities created and entities from project service.<\/p>\n<p><strong>System Entities <\/strong>contains all the entities from the CRM.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-13170\" style=\"border: 1px solid #0a0a0a; padding: 1px; margin: 1px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Connect-to-the-Power-BI-Using-Common-Data-Service2.png\" alt=\"Connect to the Power BI Using Common Data Service\" width=\"822\" height=\"655\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Note: You will get status field labels and option set labels only if you have selected entities from \u201c<strong>Common Data Model<\/strong>\u201d as well as from \u201c<strong>Custom Entities<\/strong>\u201d.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now select the entities that you want to pull.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13171 \" style=\"border: 1px solid #0a0a0a; padding: 1px; margin: 1px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inogic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Connect-to-the-Power-BI-Using-Common-Data-Service3.png\" alt=\"Connect to the Power BI Using Common Data Service\" width=\"827\" height=\"653\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The entities selected will be loaded in your power BI desktop. Now you can use entities for making your report. When using Common Data Model and Custom Entities to pull the entities from CRM we get additional fields for status labels as well as for option sets labels.
